Can Artificial intelligence conversational agents answer the needs in disease education of People living with haemophilia in Sub-Saharan Africa?

Improving patient education is generally the overarching goal of haemophilia care and management and led to the development process of an original digital solution for People With Haemophilia in Sub-Saharan Africa, which embraces the immense potential of Artificial Intelligence models.

AI chatbots’ versatility, usability were identified as key advantages to develop an original AI  multi-lingual AI chatbot in French, Wolof (Senegal) and English now available for Android and Apple iOS devices.

This presentation will immerse you into the development and implementation journey of this AI-Chatbot, built upon an inclusive patient-led approach in different countries. Key lessons learnt, results of impact evaluations will be discussed to understand how to leverage on AI models to further improve education, and the overall Quality of Life of patients with rare chronic diseases especially in low-resource settings.

Short bio:

Awa Babington-Ashaye is a molecular biochemist and virologist, with a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the  Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva. She has an extensive experience in the public, academic and private health sector. She led several digital and global health initiatives related to the education and prevention of various infectious diseases in international settings. Her activities include strategy, implementation and management of disease awareness programmes. She has an expertise in strategic thinking, design, implementation and evaluation of AI-led solutions such as chatbots. She is a Professor in Communication and Digital Health at the Grenoble Academic School of Management, a Digital Health Advisor at the Geneva Digital Health Hub (University of Geneva) and the Head of Initiatives and Partnerships for Health of a Swiss -based NGO, United People Global.
