Accommodation

Early September is very busy travel time in Paris, in particular, due to conferences. Be sure to book your hotel early.

Hotels in France are rated according to a goverment classification system by the size of the rooms and the services avaiable, where more stars mean larger rooms and more services. Hotel rooms in Paris are generally small especially when compared to North American standards.

  • One star hotels are low-cost with minimal services and the reception is only required to speak french.
  • Two star hotels offer more services and the reception is required to speak an additional official EU language.
  • Three star hotels have a minimum room size that is larger than one and two star hotels.
  • Finally, air conditioning may be included in lower classed hotels, but it is only required in four star hotels.

IHP has a list of recommended hotels which are shown in the map below. The conference is in the 5th arrondisement. We recommend staying in the 5th arrondisement and any adjoining neighbourhoods.
