About me

Background

My initial background is in biology. I was particularly interested in molecular genetics, neurophysiology, and insects biology. But I moved progressively to computer science, during my master. I was lucky to be hired in the Computer Departement for my PhD thesis, where I investigated protein secretion using machin learning approaches.

Then I did a post-doc for a big european project about multi-science and multi-scale modeling. The goal was to couple several preexisting models together to simulate a complex phenomena occuring in arteries after angioplasty interventions. The challenge was not only to develop theoretical and practical tools to realize the coupling, but also communicating with researchers from many different backgrounds and cultures.

Finally I was hired by the CADMOS center (a joint initiative of Unige, Unil and EPFL) as an HPC application analyst. I was able for collaborate with investigators to help design fast and accurate software designed for supercomputers. After the end of CADMOS, I got a similar position directly at Unige, and I was more involved in teaching.

Programming and software engineering

I enjoy programming low and high level. My favorites languages are Scala and C. But I also frequently use python, R, C++, bash, elm, haskell, typescript and javascript.

I like clean and light software engineering methodologies. In particular, rapid development using functional programming languages and methods. I have some experience with handling massive dataset and huge computations, in particular with parallel approaches.

I participated too several interesting development for both academia and industry. Notably, I was seconded to the state of Geneva during the 2020 covid crisis, where I had to design and implement from scratch a robust and secure solution for sharing and analysing all sources of data for operational purposes.

Personnal interests

I play the trumpet. Currently member of a jazz big-band and a Cumbia band. I like biking, reading history book (mostly late antiquity), old school ttrpg, and cooking.
